Rowing the Atlantic!

More people have climbed Mount Everest than have rowed the Atlantic Ocean.

So we’re so very pleased to be supporting a close family member Alex Fawcett, who is currently rowing the Atlantic Ocean as part of ‘The Talisker Challenge‘ in a team of 4. The challenge pits man, oar and boat against each other as well as the elements, sleep deprivation, physical and mental fitness and endurance, sun burn and salt sores.

Treeline Chalets are proud to be sponsoring the team ‘Atlantic Seamen’ whilst they row 3000nm from La Gomera to Antigua. Team Atlantic Seamen are Jon Davies, Andrew (Bez) Berry, Alex Fawcett and Andrew Grant.

Their chosen charities are the Children’s Hospice SW and the Urology Foundation. Both are superb causes and the challenge is known as one of the toughest endurance races going so we’d love you to contribute to the campaign if you are able – you will find links to both JustGiving pages on their website home page > www.atlanticseamen.com

It’s no surprise then that more people have been into space, or climbed Everest than have rowed the Atlantic. It takes a certain kind of person to keep going when faced with blisters, salt rash, sharks and sleep deprivation. That’s why the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge is the world’s toughest row.

The idea of the Atlantic Challenge race came to Sir Chay Blyth whilst he was rowing the Atlantic Ocean in 1966 with John Ridgeway. It was a 92 day battle against hurricanes, 50 foot waves and near starvation.

The ‘Atlantic Seamen’ team have already surpassed all expectations and are now due to complete the challenge on Thursday  24th January 2019! Having left on 12th December, that’s only 37 days!!!
