Morzine and Beyond!

Morzine is packed full of exciting summer activities, but if you have driven out or hired a car you may wish to explore further afield as the beauty doesn’t stop here! We have put together our top 5 day trips to enjoy the region – just ask our resort staff for more information or directions:

ANNECY

Enjoy the stunning shores of lake Annecy (pictured).  Around a 1.5 hour drive from Morzine, it’s definitely do-able as a day trip. Whether you want to wander around the old town, sample french cuisine, enjoy the shops or just spend the day by the lake you won’t be short of things to do.

GORGES DU POINT DU DIABLE

Just a short 20 minute drive outside Morzine, the Devils Gorge makes for a perfect morning / afternoon activity. You are met with a guide who takes you on a 45 minute tour down through the stunning gorges lined with steep rock faces, carved by ice and the fast flowing river.

SIXT-FER-A-CHEVAL

Cirque de Sixt-Fer-a-Cheval gets its name from a natural amphitheater, which from above looks like horseshoe. The huge cliff faces that surround the valley are awash with waterfalls so don’t forget to take your camera. There’s plenty of walking options of varying distances along the valley floor, making it a great option for all to enjoy whatever your level. To drive over from Morzine takes around 1 hour, and you can also choose to take the famous mountain road – the Col de Joux Plane – known for being a punishing climb on the Tour de France route.

LAC LEMAN

Lac Leman (also known as Lake Geneva) spans both France and Switzerland, and can be enjoyed from different spots starting at only 30km from Morzine. Thonon Plage (a small lakeside beach) hosts cafes, a swimming pool and infant play areas. If you wish to head a little further afield then sat on the swiss side of the border, just an hour and 30 minute drive away, the international city of Geneva hosts plenty of chic boutiques, bars and restaurants. Another favourite spot of ours is Evian; home to the famous bottled water! Evian is a picturesque french town sat on the edge of the lake and is known for its great architecture, pretty fountains and a great mini golf course.

CHAMONIX

Just over an hours drive down the valley, the world famous Chamonix valley is the home of Mont Blanc! Although it’s a mecca for climbers and mountaineers, you don’t have to be an adrenaline junkie to pay this iconic mountain town a visit. There are plenty of shops to peruse, restaurants to sample and dramatic views to enjoy. To get up close and personal with Mont Blanc why not take a trip up the Aguille di Midi Cable Car taking you to heights of over 3000m, and for those with a head for heights you can step into a glass cage suspended over a 1000m precipice!
