Avoriaz – snowiest French resort in Winter 14/15!

Avoriaz has recently been named the snowiest ski resort in France for winter 14/15!

Last winter, there was a slow start to the season across the whole of the Alps but Avoriaz still opened with 90% of the lifts operating from 13th December 2014! Whilst other French resorts were struggling & busing people over to the Portes du Soliel to be able to get on skis, we were lucky enough to enjoy almost full coverage in Avoriaz from the very start of the season.

There were changeable conditions throughout the winter and it’s fair to say it wasn’t the snowiest of seasons (especially compared to the epic snowfall of Winter 12/13 in Avoriaz when a whopping 11.77m snowfall was recorded at resort level and 13.49m at 2200m!!) but there was still plenty of great skiing to be had throughout the season this year.

The recent findings come in a report by Weather To Ski, who record snow averages and depths in resorts across the Alps. The report states that “nearly all northern Alpin resorts experienced below average snowfall” this past winter but with Avoriaz recording 6.11m at resort level (1800m), it emerged (as it often does) as the snowiest ski resort in France”.

The report by Fraser Wilkin can be read online in full here.
